x+y- A Review

Greetings, readers! Today I decided to review a lesser known movie, to bring it to light. This is movie for anybody who likes quiet, thoughtful stuff, and is looking for a respite from the chaos all around them. Though the theme is a little blue, it is full of innocent revelations and subtle humor – and a story that is gripping despite its pace(though I would say it might feel slow to someone who restricts themselves to only action sequences!)

The movie we are talking of today is called ‘X+Y’ (also, ‘A Brilliant Young Mind’ for American audiences). It is a British movie, directed by Morgan Matthews, revolving around the life of a mathematically gifted, autistic teen named Nathan, played by Asa Butterfield (somebody some of you may remember from the Netflix series Sex Education!) The cast if full of seasoned jewels, like Sally Hawking, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marson, and also features young actress Jo Yang.

Nathan is a 14 year old with autism spectrum disorder, which makes it difficult for him to interact normally with others- particularly for him to understand their behavior. He gets selected for the team which is representing the country in the International Mathematics Olympiad- which was he had ever dreamt of doing ever since he was little. And hence he begins his journey- being away from his family for the first time and making new friends; on course his discovery of emotional understanding and the understanding of love.
